Dogfouling
Dog fouling remains a persistent problem in the area despite all efforts to eliminate it.
And the blame is being laid with a ‘small number of irresponsible and selfish owners.’
These owners ignore all pleas and won’t clean up after their pets, it is claimed. The same people have been identified for continually refusing to act responsibly. Because the evidence points to it with dog dirt found in the same places almost daily, and left for volunteers to get rid of (not a very pleasant task as you can imagine).
Furthermore a lot of this behaviour has been pinpointed to happen late at night or early morning under cover of darkness.
The problem is stated to be the one that gets most negative reaction from visitors to the village as well as from local residents.
The potential dangers have been spelled out including the health risks for parents with children, for users of buggies, for wheelchair users, for walkers in general, but to no avail.
Dog Wardens have carried out patrols, have spoken to dog owners, and have handed out information leaflets, but these seem to have no effect on this small number of irresponsible and selfish owners.
An appeal has been made to members of the public to report any incident they see where dirt is not picked up by telephoning Louth County Council on 1890 202 303 or 042 9335457.
More Kudos for Neptune Bar After the bouquets from the judges in the national tidy towns competition for the revamped premises with an eye catching new colour exterior, the bar came up trumps in the regional finals of the Irish Pub Awards.
The overall presentation of business premises and the refurbishment of the Community Centre received high praise from the Tidy Towns judges in their report. However, the report commented ‘the recently refurbished Neptune bar stood out.’
Now it has picked up the award for ‘Best Outdoor Space’ at the North East finals of the Irish Pub Awards.
The winners from the seven regional finals of the event go forward to the overall national award finals in the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin on Wednesday November 21st.
