Niamh stars for St Peter’s club

-

GLENMORE AC hosted the annual Kearney and McBride Cups with a Cross Country event for juveniles and road race for senior athletes.

For the younger athletes the event marks the last Cross Country event of the year.

Top performer for St Peter’s on the day was undoubtedly Niamh Brady who has rediscovered her appetite for distance running and after a two year absence from the business end of races this fine young athlete with unquestionable ability is back performing to her ability and is improving week on week.

She moved up an age for this event but performed bravely and finished in second place just behind the eventual winner who was an under 15 athlete.

St Peter’s also had three boys in the Under 15 Boys race and all three performed better than they have in recent weeks as Mark Litchfield and Cian Gorham both claimed medals with Sean Allen just behind them.

The day kicked off with the girls under 9 race where three young St Peters girls performed really well as Aoibhinn Boyle, Niamh Allen and Grace Carey all battled well through the large field of athletes.

The boys under 9 race also saw three Peter’s athletes competing as Liam McKeown led the trio home and collected another cross country medal in the process. He was closely followed by his younger brother Killian and Cian Smyth.

The girls under eleven race saw three St Peters athletes take to the line with Catherine Carey and Emily and Hannah O’Reilly really working hard through the 800M course.

Ruairí Carpenter and Jon McKevitt both had strong runs in the boys under eleven race and both are learning and improving with each race.

The girls under 13 race saw Dearbhla Allen move up from under 12 to lead home a St Peter’s trio of herself Ellie Smyth and Ellie Fitzpatrick with both Ellie and Dearbhla winning medals and Isabeal just missing out despite a great run.

Harry O’Reilly had another solid run in the boys under 13 race with a fourth place finish out of his age and Conor Litchfield had a very strong second half to his race after a bad start.

Next week the club will have a contingent making the short journey to Navan for the Leinster Cross Country Championships for even ages and it is hoped that all perform to their ability.
