Bad weather fails to dampen spirit of giving

-

CASA, The Caring and Sharing Association would like to express their thanks to everybody who responded so generously to their recent appeal for stock for their charity shops.

On Saturday morning, October 13, Hanlon Transport had made their truck and trailer available at Cooley hall to facilitate the appeal. As dawn broke on the Cooley Peninsula, large dark clouds gathered overhead, releasing rain from the Heavens. Not even the atrocious weather could dampen the spirit of giving, nor quell the flow of human kindness.

There was a constant stream of vehicles to the trailer, many laden with donations. Young mothers happy to ensure that another child would benefit from the clothes and shoes their own child had outgrown. Kind, generous ladies and gentlemen came, their smiles and good humour evident of their delight for having been presented with the opportunity to support a fellow human being with a disability.

Long before the day of the collection, many kind hearts had been giving their donations. Each donation is very much appreciated by CASA. Each bag had a priceless value. From each bag is born a ripple of kindness which spreads all over Ireland.

In twenty two locations throughout the country, plans will now be put in place for the many CASA Christmas parties. Children and adults with disabilities will look forward to meeting Santa and tasting the joys of Christmas. Music will be enjoyed, delicious food will be savoured. Throughout the coming year, monthly CASA socials will take place providing opportunities for those with disabilities to meet and make new friends.

In far off Kenya, under the heat of the burning equator sun, mothers who struggle daily to care for their disabled child will find understanding for that precious child under the umbrella of care which is CASA. In September of each year, CASA organise their annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. Liaising with hospitals and hospices all over Ireland, many living with life limiting conditions continue to be presented with opportunities to visit Lourdes.

All of this work is financed through the CASA charity shops. It is all made possible because people care enough to place their unwanted item of clothing or footwear into a bag and donate it to this charity.

CASA wish to thank everybody who heard their appeal and responded so generously. They wish to thank the volunteers who helped to load the trailer on the day of the collection. They would like to thank Hanlon Transport for once more coming to their aid, providing their truck and trailer for the collection. Thank you to the thirteen men who got out of their beds at 4 am on Sunday morning, in order to travel with the consignment, ensuring that each bag was delivered safely. Thank you to the Argus Newspaper and all who promoted the CASA appeal.

CASA were overwhelmed at the amount of support received. They deeply appreciate the level of caring and sharing received from a small rural community. They humbly extend their thanks and blessings upon the kind generous people who never fail to extend their helping hands to others.

The next CASA collection is planned to take place in Spring 2019.
