Trial set for Det. Gda Donohoe accused
MAN ACCUSED OF MURDERING DET. GDA ADRIAN DONOHOE TO STAND TRIAL
A South Armagh man accused of murdering Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe will go on trial in October next year.
Aaron Brady, 27, from New Road, Crossmaglen, County Armagh, was charged earlier this year with murdering Det Garda Donohoe at Lordship Credit Union, Bellurgan, on 25 January 2013.
Justice Michael White at the Central Criminal Court set a date of 8 October 2019 for the trial to begin.
The court was told that the trial is expected to take six to eight weeks.
At a previous court hearing Mr Brady was served a four-volume book of evidence.
The officer, a married fatherof-two, was killed while on duty. Det Garda Donohoe had been on a cash escort with colleagues when he was fatally shot during a botched robbery in the car park of the credit union.
Meanwhile, in separate developments Dundalk gardai are investigating a suspected stabbing incident, which is reported to have occurred shortly after 4pm on Saturday last at Dundalk Bus Station at The Long Walk.
Gardaí, the armed response unit and ambulance personnel all arrived on the scene around 4.30pm.
A man in his 20s was understood to have been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. His injuries were not thought to have been life threatening.
Gardai are also investigating a suspected arson attack at a house on Hoey’s Lane last week.
The derelict property was reported to have been badly damaged in the attack.
The incident saw a series of traffic restrictions in place along Hoey’s Lane.
Gardaí and fire personnel were called to the scene to deal with the blaze.
A man was arrested in connection with the incident and was taken to Dundalk Garda Station for questioning.
