SOM/D’HILL/NAPS WOLFE TONES 3-6 1-10

THE Sean O’Mahony’s/Na Piarsaigh/Dowdallshill U15s enjoyed a superb victory over Wolfe Tones in the U15 Division 2 League Final last Monday evening in Darver.

Wolfe Tones got off to a great start and led by 0-6 to 0-1 after 20 minutes before the Dundalk side dragged themselves back into the game when Cathal Bradley helped force Tiernan Watters high dropping free into the net.

Coupled with Sean Cassidy’s second point from play and Tiernan Watters first of the day, suddenly there was only the minimum between the sides

But the Drogheda side fired a quick 1-1 of their own just before the break to leave five point in it on the changeover.

The amalgamated side dominated the second half but after 20 minutes there was still only one score on the board, a Sean Cassidy free, to show for all their promising approach work.

Instead Wolfe Tones managed to kick two points of their own, to forge six ahead with only five minutes left on the clock, before the Dundalk side finally took their chances, during a frantic closing chapter.

First Junior Shotayo landed a free, followed by Tiernan Watters taking his point when three goalbound shots had been blocked.

Then substitute Daniel Duffy lashed the ball into the net from close range despite more frantic defending by the Drogheda lads.

With the minimum between the sides and time running out, more sustained pressure on the ‘Tones goal led to a penalty, which Junior Shotayo coolly slotted into the net to send the Dundalk combination’s fans ecstatic.

When the final whistle sounded shortly afterwards, The Sean O’Mahony’s/Na Piarsaigh/ Dowdallshill U15s had won the league title by two points on a final score of 3-6 to 1-10.
