Former council chamber to be named Proclamation Room
THE former council chamber meeting room in Dundalk Town Hall, Crowe Street, is being renamed as the Proclamation Room.
An official ceremony to mark the official dedication of the room takes place this Tuesday afternoon at 4.30pm, with the chairperson of the
Dundalk Municipal District, Cllr Conor Keelan presiding.
The room is being renamed as the Proclamation room as it houses a copy of the 1916
Proclamation, which was presented to Dundalk
Urban District Council in 1959 by Dundalk and
District Old IRA.
In addition, a series of 1916-related artwork, curated by the Arts Service of Louth County
Council to mark 1916 centenary celebrations in
Louth, will hang in the room.
The works include a series of sixteen portraits of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising by Dundalk artist Carol Wallace, an etching of Seamus Hanratty by his niece Alice Hanratty entitled ‘Dundalk Battalion’, ‘For Our Future’, a large oil painting of the destruction of Dublin city during the Rising by Dundalk artist Paul Woods, and ‘Cailini na hEireann’, a line cut print by local artist and former arts officer, Constance Short.
