Dumping spoils area

-

Indiscriminate dumping is now visible again in parts of the parish, with lately Haggardstown chosen by those who have little or no regard for their environment and the local area and the blight that they deposit on the local landscape.

All they care about is their own selfish needs to dispose of items they don’t want and it doesn’t matter at what expense to the general population and what harm their acts causes, spoiling at the very least the local landscape.

It is especially galling considering the tireless work that the Tidy Towns and all sections of the community have put in and continue to give endless hours to keep the area clean and tidy, and has resulted in Blackrock climbing to 15th overall in the national Tidy Towns competition, and this year named the tidiest community in Louth.

Maybe it is too much to ask that those selfish individuals consider others and do what most do and dispose of their unwanted goods in the proper manner.

Why should they be any different than the self respecting citizens who follow the rules and play their part as best they can to be civic minded and protect and maintain their environment.

Greater vigilance has to be exercised to stop the like of a large bed mattress being thrown out into the ditch along the side of the road, like recently on Clermont Road, and another large unsightly item on the edge of the nearby Marlbog Road close to Heynestown Cross.

And to ensure that those responsible for such acts are caught and receive the penalties that their wanton acts deserve.
