Gardeners galore honoured at Dromiskin awards night
TIDY TOWNS GROUP
FRESH from a very successful tidy towns programme, which saw the village achieve a remarkable increase of 11 marks in the 2018 National Tidy Towns Competition, Dromiskin Tidy Towns held their House and Garden Awards recently to publicly honour the many avid gardeners who, Individually and collectively, contribute so positively to the environmental presentation of the village.
Councillor Liam Reilly, Chairman Louth County Council, was on hand to officiate and was particularly delighted to do so as he is an extremely active volunteer and long term secretary of Dromiskin Tidy Towns.
Liam stressed ‘ the importance of engaging with the residential sector bearing in mind that it is the overall community and not solely the work of the tidy towns committee that is judged in the Competition’. He was also fulsome in his praise for Louth County Council whose support in terms of professional advice and guidance as well as financial investment has contributed hugely to the noted transformation of the village.
Parish of Darver Credit Union sponsor the Awards and one of the biggest cheers of the night was reserved for Sheila Maguire when she announced that, following the recent amalgamation with Ardee Credit Union, she could confirm that the much appreciated sponsorship would continue in future years.
Pat Mulligan, Chairman, Dromiskin Tidy Towns, thanked all in the community who supported the work of the Tidy Towns Committee in the last twelve months giving particular focus to the members of Dromiskin Junior Tidy Towns whose innovative ideas and hands on approach to delivering the work programme is a key element to Dromiskin’s success in tidy towns initiatives. In line with the committee’s objective to ‘Get Dromiskin Buzzing’ Pat announced that a new category had been introduced to the House and Garden Competition to acknowledge a garden which, in addition to being pretty and well maintained, was planted to support Pollinators and Biodiversity. The winners of this inaugural award were the Mc Ardle family from 29 Church View who were runners up to the warm, inviting and delightfully informal garden designed and maintained by Annette Larsen and Gerry Desmond, No 2 Innis Linn.
