Hit and run incident at Hill Street Bridge

DUNDALK gardai are investigat­ing a ‘ hit and run’ after a taxi was struck by another vehicle at Hill Street Bridge in the early hours of yesterday (Monday) morning.

The taxi was reported to have been waiting at a red light heading towards the Dublin Road at around 3am, when another vehicle drove up and struck it from behind.

A male who was driving the second car was reported to have got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. He was wearing a red zip up hoodie and dark coloured jeans and had short dark hair.

Four passengers in the first vehicle and the driver were taken to hospital with what was described as ‘minor’ injuries. There was significan­t damage reported to both vehicles. Gardai are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who has any informatio­n to contact them at 042 93 88400 or on the confidenti­al telephone number 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile gardai have also appealed for homeowners and business owners to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries in the north Louth area over the last week.

One of the incidents saw a break in to a building site on the Newry Road overnight on Thursday last. Windows were smashed and entry gained to a premises, and a grinder was stolen.

A break in was also reported at Dundalk Rugby Club overnight on Tuesday last. Nothing was reported stolen.
