‘Writing Home’ at An Táin
THE red carpet will be out at An Táin Arts Centre next Wednesday December 5 for the local premier of the award-winning film ‘Writing Home’, which was filmed on location in the Cooley peninsula,
Former Taoiseach Enda Kenny will preside at the launch of the film, which features local actors including Tom Doonan, Juliette Crosbie and Jack Montgomery and music by Carlingford musician Gareth Woods. The film, has been screened to acclaim at film festivals including Galway Film Fleadh, Cork Film Festival and in Chicago, New York, Toronto, Mexico, Luxembourg and London.
It tells the story of Daniel Doran, an Irish emigrant to London, played by award winning actor Tony Kelly. Having failed as a serious novelist, Daniel achieves success when he turns his hand to potboilers. When his father falls ill, he returns to his rural roots and to a family who are not entirely willing to forgive his departure.
Producer Mark Coffey, son of political journalist Nick Coffey, said the film would not have been made ‘without co-operation from the local community in Cooley and the support and help we got was phenomenal.’ Mark thanked local Cllrs Emma Coffey, John McGahan, Mark Dearey, Conor Keelan and Peter Savage, who helped with sponsorship.
‘ The overwhelming feedback from the festivals this film has been shown at has been the reaction to the beauty of the Cooley landscape. People have been blown away by it,’ said Mark.‘We’re hoping as many people as possible from Carlingford, Dundalk and north Louth can make it to the premiere for a great night and to see their area on the big screen.’
Tickets, €10, are on sale at An Táin, with a wine reception at 7.30pm.
