Heartbreak for Dearbhla and the Louth girls

-

THE penultimate event in the Juvenile Cross Country season took place at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown, preceding the National Senior event.

The St Peters girls were among the best performers as Dearbhla Allen was part of the Louth girls Under 12 team that suffered the heartbreak of finishing in fourth place. Dearbhla played her part with another brave performance, finishing 32nd out of a huge field.

Dearbhla didn’t get the best of starts but determined as ever she put her head down and worked her way through the field.

Niamh Brady who has rediscovered her distance running talent once again led the Louth 14 team home in a race that was stacked with quality, Niamh was brave through out the race and indeed was part of the lead group in the early stages. Both girls will move up an age to take part in the uneven National event which will take place in Navan next month.

Both Harry O’Reilly and Ben McKeown had strong runs in the boys under 12 and both would have gained valuable experience this year and like the two girls both will have another run out in Navan.

Mark Litchfield and Cian Gorham finished off their year in the boys under 14 race. Both boys gave it their all and will now concentrate on the new year and the Leinster indoor championships.

Next weekend attention turns to the elder Lemons of the club when the Louth Masters Cross-Country Championships take place in the Lands of St Peters ‘s Andrew and Brendan Rogers in Togher.
