A €30,000 grant from Dormant Accounts Funding will benefit a wide range of sport and physical activity measures for the Muirhevnamor Community Sport and Physical Activity Hub a local Councillor has said.

Announcing the €30,000 allocation, Cllr. McGahon said: ‘The Muirhevnamor Community Sports & Physical Activity HUB was established in June 2017. Louth Local Sports partnership secured funding for the HUB following a competitive bids process through Sport Ireland which was accessed through the dormant accounts fund.’

He explained the HUB’s Vision is to create a sustainable environment for every member of the Muirhevnamor community regardless of age, ability or background to get involved and more importantly stay involved in physical activity or sport.

Cllr. McGahon said: ‘News of this funding will be warm- ly welcomed by everyone involved in sport here in Dundalk. The Local Sports Partnership Network carries out vital work in increasing participation, particularly among those sectors of society which are under represented in sport. This work is making a substantial contribution to the health and welfare of individuals and communities.’

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin said: ‘Sport is vital for the growth of community and so- cial cohesiveness in disadvantaged areas, and investment in the young people in these areas has long-term benefits both for their own health and for their engagement in society generally. The investment being announced not only means that some of the successful programmes implemented over the last three years can be continued, it also allows for new initiatives and investment in disadvantaged communities.’
