-

Omeath-based Morgans Fine Fish have recently completed an investment project with a total investment of €1million. The project was part funded by the Irish Government and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund under the Seafood Capital Investment Scheme and was administered by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), Ireland’s Seafood Development Agency.

‘ This investment is a significant boost for our business and also our community in North Louth and border areas,’ says Brian McCullagh, general manager, Morgans Fine Fish. ‘ The funding we have received from BIM through the European Maritime Fisheries Fund will enable us to target European market and increase our production capacity significantly. We are proud to employ 80 people in our business in Louth and Cork, and with this additional investment, we are looking forward to growing our business further over the next five years. It will allow us to secure jobs and hopefully create more jobs going forward.’

The company used the investment to buy state of the art equipment for filleting fish, so that their customers can enjoy the highest quality filleted fish. Morgans’ supply hotels and restaurants as well as well known supermarket chains and shops. Their delivery vans are on the road six days a week delivering fresh fish to their customers around the country.

Morgans Fine Fish are one of a number of companies that will receive funding under the European Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF) in 2018. The Programme provides €240m in funding to the seafood sector (fisheries, aquaculture and seafood processing) over the period 2014 to 2020. The Programme is co-funded by the Exchequer and the EU.
