- Eileen Guy 1945-2018

EILEEN Guy (nee Reidy), Corrakitt, Omeath, passed away peacefully at her home on 21 October, 2018.

Eileen was born on 3 June, 1945 in Lixnaw, Co. Kerry, the youngest daughter of Seán and Hannah Reidy.

She moved to Cobh, Co. Cork, following the unexpected passing of both her parents. Eileen, who was just 8-years-old, moved with her brother Seán, who was five, to live with their older sister Maureen, her husband Joe and their family.

She left Cobh when she was 18 to live in Birmingham with her sister Peggy.

It was there that she met and married her husband Patsy. They established their family home in Erdington, Birmingham, where they had their 3 children Margaret, Christine and John.

They resided there until 1979 when they returned to Ireland and Patsy’s family home in Corrakitt, Omeath, to run the family farm.

Once home, Eileen watched her family grow up and she was delighted when her grand-daughter Caitlinn was born. She doted on her and loved to spend time with her when she would visit from Dublin.

Eileen worked as a carer for many of her elderly neighbours. She enjoyed the time she spent with them and looked after everyone with great care and affection.

She was a great cook and home maker, and loved to read newspapers and magazines. She enjoyed herself socially and was invited to every party in the village.

She enjoyed the love and respect of both young and old in the local area. She could hold a conversation with anyone and her love of life and its simple pleasures would always shine through.

Eileen was a very caring and supportive neighbour and friend and will be missed dearly by all those who knew her and had the privilege of sharing her company.

She was predeceased by her parents, Seán and Hannah; her sisters, Maureen, Peggy and Bridie; and extended members of the Reidy and Guy families.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Patsy; daughters, Margaret and Christine; son, John; grand-daughter, Caitlinn; son-in-law, Gerry; sister, Noreen; brother, Seán; sisterin-law, Kathleen; nephews, nieces, extended family, dear neighbours and friends.

After reposing at her home, Eileen’s remains were removed to St Laurence’s Church, Omeath, for evening prayers.

Fr Christy McElwee officiated at the funeral Mass.

Music was provided by her dear neighbours, the O’Hagan girls, accompanied by Olivia Finnegan on organ.

The readings were read by Eileen’s grand-daughter, Caitlinn and grand-niece, Alex. Prayers of the faithful were led by Karen McManus, Jimmy Losty, and Patricia and Breandán O’Hagan.

Gifts were taken up by her daughters, Margaret and Christine.

Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.
