Retiring after 42 years at Irish Life

- By Olivia Ryan

There were celebrations at Irish Life’s Dundalk headquarters on Friday last as manager Shay Weston retired after 42 years working with the company.

Shay moved from Dublin 12 years ago to manage the team at the Dundalk centre, and in that time has helped oversee a huge expansion in the customer centre.

‘Dundalk has been very good to me, a very welcoming place to work and live, and it’s been great to see the number of staff here grow from around 70 when I started first to around 200 now.’

He added that the Dundalk centre is currently undergoing major growth with work on new purpose built offices set to be complete by the summer.

‘When the move is complete, the new building will accommodate up to 350 people, so there is room for significant growth.

Irish Life has been in Dundalk since 2001, and over the last almost 18 years has become a major employer in the area.

‘Our staff have always been a motivated team, and it’s been a pleasure working with them.’

He added that locating in Dundalk has given them company access to an ‘excellent work force,’ which has helped it grow.

Shay moved from Dublin to Castlebellingham, and said he was thrilled to settle into the local community. ‘I’m chairman of the Cuchulainn Cycling Club, that’s been a big hobby of mine. People here are great, and I think there is a real sense gthat Dundalk is on the up.

He wished incoming new manager, Damien Rafferty, ‘all the very best’ with the new premises and continued success.
