New pay parking charges next week

-

THE introduction of new pay parking charges will come into effect in the town area next week.

Louth County Council confirmed that the new charge will be set at €1.10 per hour, after councillors agreed to increase the rate by 10 cents in the 2019 budget.

The local authority issued an update on the pay parking issue with confirmation that ‘ The Members of the Municipal District of Dundalk have made the Bye-Laws under Section 36 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 for the purpose of controlling and regulating on-street parking in the Municipal District of Dundalk and specifically for the adjustment of the fees level to be paid in respect of such parking.

These bye-laws shall come into force on February 8, 2019, when the old €1 per hour rate will be scrapped.

The charges will be in place in all of the pay parking zones during business hours, 8.30a.m to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, and will continue to be operated on a ‘feed the meter’ basis.

The bye laws indicate that for every continuous 12 minutes of parking int these zones, it will now cost 22 cents.

Parking in the town’s long stay car parks will not increase in price, and will remain at €2 per day.

A copy of the said bye-laws is available for inspection at the offices of Louth County Council, County Hall, Dundalk, during normal office hours and can be purchased for a fee of €7.00. They can also be viewed on the local authority website www. louthcoco.ie
