Good start to 2019 for Marist students

MARIST students have been busy on the sports fields and running racks as well as the classroom since returning to school after the Christmas holidays.

Twenty athletes from the school took part in the Drogheda and District cross country event in Newtownsta­laban, recently. Conor McCarron took home a silver medal in the junior boys 2000m, and also the boys won the school junior team event. The girls were second in the junior girls team event.

The school also travelled to the Phoenix Park for the north leinster cross country event last Thursday. Eoin Kenny qualified in the minor boys competitio­n after finishing 13th and the junior boys finished in 3rd place qualifying them for the Leinster schools competitio­n. Congratula­tions to Ciaráin Walshe, Daniel McCarron, Oísin Cheshire, Rory McLaughlin and Séan Allen.

Congratula­tions are also due to the U19 boys basketball team and their coach Mr. Mc Shane who are now through to the All Ireland Semi Finals

A group of twenty students participat­ed in Seinn 2019 in Holy Church of the Redeemer on Thursday Jade Ayres was the soloist.

St. Mary’s College hosted the Irish Junior problem solving quiz on Thursday. Many schools in the Dundalk area were represente­d and the Marist team placed 4th on the night. Rebecca Lambe Fegan, Mark McGahon, Ailbhe Ford and Rachel Oladele.

Well done to former student Neda Pasakinait­e who received the entrance exhibition award in TCD. Neda is currently in her first year in Chemical Sciences.
