SUSTAINABLE FASHION SHOW
The glitz and glamour of high fashion met sustainability and recycling at the annual Trashion Fashion awards last week.
Hosted by Louth County Council and Louth Tidy Towns Together in the Carrickdale Hotel, the competition challenges students from local post-primary schools to create head-turning outfits crafted from a wide range of recycling material from crisp packets to paper.
Months of designing, cutting, sewing, pinning and glueing went into making the eye catching creations which impressed the audiences as they were modelled on the catwalk last Wednesday.
The judging team of Deirdre Sweeney, Willie Martin, Stephania Egan, Maire Mulligan and Cathriona McGee had a very difficult task in selecting the winners due to the high standard of entries which demonstrated great imagination and creativity.
The award for most moving performance went to the TY team of Tara Woods, Mickey Doyle, Katie Farrell from Colaiste Chu Chullainn for ‘Magdalene losses’, while Rachel McNally from St Ita’s, Drogheda took the award for best performance with ‘Be Who You Are’.
Colaiste Ris and St Vincent’s and tied for the most number of awards, each winning four prizes.
This year’s winning creations from the Seatown Place school were ‘Light as a feather, modelled by Kirsten Doherty, ‘ Touch Wood’, modelled by Shauna King, ‘Flower Power’ worn by Isabella Garvey, while Emily Lucid took to the stage as ‘ The Time Traveller’s Wife.’
Colaiste Ris won prizes for ‘Money, Money,
Money’ modelled by Leah Conway, ‘ Skin Deep’ with Eve Brosnan, ‘ We are Hear’ with Leon Duffy, and ‘ Panic on the Dance Floor’ modelled by Joe Lennon.
‘Standards set for young people’ was an award winning creation for the Colaiste Chu Chullain team of Laura Jane Hearty as model and Sarah Hoey.
Bush post primary school were also among the prize winners with ‘Climtastrophy’ modelled by Maryanne McGrane.
Many of the entries created for Trashion Fashion will go on to be selected for the nationwide competition Junk Kouture.
