Train driver Andrew loses nine stone

- By MARGARET RODDY

DUNDALK train driver Andrew Maddy is celebrating losing over nine stone since joining Fighting Fit in January 2018.

His new year resolution came after he saw a photo of himself and a few friends at the Christmas Party in 2017. He decided at that point, he needed to change something.

‘I had been feeling really bad about myself for a long time before I took the plunge,’ he revealed. ‘ My self confidence was probably at its lowest ever point and because of this, I did not engage with people or socialist at all. I had buried my head in the sand for too long and could not see a way out.’

He decided to join Fighting fit at the prompting of his friend Ceire Maguire. ‘ She told me there were people of all shapes and sized there so I wouldn’t feel as if I was the biggest person in the room. She encouraged me to try their free week trial and that if I didn’t like it at least I wasn’t out any money.’;

‘During the first four weeks at Fighting Fit I never realised there were so many muscles in my body that could hurt! I was glad I took the plunge and quickly realised that this was something I could keep doing. My mentality never really came into it at the beginning, I got so much support and encouragement from the trainers at the gym that I really believed I could do it.’

In addition to working out, Andrew also tackled his diet, cutting our all sugars and carbs, after Fighting Fit trainer and a nutritionist Brendan Mulligan explained the benefits of a low carb diet.”

‘ Today I can’t believe the amount of energy I have. Me self confidence has gone through the roof and my outlook on life is very positive,’ said a delighted Andrew. ‘In fact, I have changed more mentally than I have physically even after losing 9 stone. I feel fantastic. I can’t believe that it’s the same person looking back at me now. It’s such a pleasure to go out and buy new clothes. Before this, I struggled to fit into 44” jeans. My tops were 3XL. Now my jeans are a 32” and my tops are a medium. I get such a thrill trying on new clothes!”

He paid tribute to the team at Fighting Fit, saying ‘ the massive support and encouragement I got from all the members and staff at Fighting Fit kept me motivated to keep going.’
