Choppy waters ahead for Dundalk Port
CHOPPY waters lie ahead for Dundalk Port with Brexit.
While the owners of the port have been inventive in generating new business with the importation of maize which is used in the production of whiskey in the Great Northern Distillery, which was previously imported through Warrenpoint, they could see the exportation of scrap cars to Liverpool threatened by Brexit.
The more we learn about Brexit, the more we understand just how intertwined Ireland, Great Britain and mainland Europe have become since the introduction of the Single European Act. Untangling that web seems virtually impossible.
Finally it was interesting to hear from the port operators that coal is no longer imported through Dundalk and that owners Bord na Mona are seeking to sell the coalyards.
