DUNDALK
THE Winter Series, sponsored by Tiernans Centra Blackrock, began on Sunday with a Four-Man Rumble over 14 holes and produced an exciting finish as the long-time clubhouse holders were finally knocked off their perch by two of the day’s final groups.
When Terry Conlon (6), Dessie Ward (13), Derek Teather (16) and Gerry McDermott (16) teed off in the opening group of the day at 8am it was cold and dim, but they proved to be in hot form and posted a score of 74 points for the 32 teams following behind them to beat.
They led for most of the day but were eventually toppled when the fifth last group, featuring Pat Beirne (23), Jim Burlingham (28), Michael McNamara (22) and Brian Crombie (22), signed for a superb score of 77 points despite playing most of their round in wet conditions.
The long-time leaders were then pipped for second place on a countback when Mark Coan (25), Paul Lynch (18), Ferghal Duffy (16) and Graham Purcell (20) also came home with 74 points. They covered the final nine holes in 59 points and took the countback and second place by one point.

THE second week of the Spring League was played on Saturday 26Th And Tuesday 29th January. It has begun with some fantastic golf. Teresa Connolly is on great form winning Class A two weeks running. Well done Teresa on her fantastic scores. Denise Marron wins Class B with a very respectable 18pts and Linda Fergus will be on to watch this year wins Class C with a super score of 19pts. Congratulations to all the winners.

The January 26th 14-hole voucher competition was won by 25-handicapper Daniel Murtagh with 31 points and the Open Gents winner for January 22nd was 12-handicapper Jim Sheridan with a score of 40.

SATURDAY’S team waltz was held in brilliant sunshine. The winners were Anne McDonnell, Ethna Dowling, Maureen McCartan and Dympna McGuinness who waltzed in at the end of the field with an impressive 46 pts. The midweek competition is carried over. Saturday next we have an 11H SF competition. Booking as usual on Wednesday prior at 7pm.

DESPITE the chilly weather last weekend, there was once again a great turnout for the MacBride Winter League.
Week 2 was an 18 gross competition and the Grade 1 winner was Tommy Dyas with a score of 47 gross. Grade 2 was won by Tom Devin with a score of 51 gross.
Week three of the league will be an 18 nett competition - times of play Saturday at 1.30pm and Sunday at 10am.

THE Spring Alliance was played in Dunshaughlin on Saturday last and the winners from the tourna- ment were as follows:
36 nett Christine Morgan (Dunshaughlin), Barry O’Leary (Navan) and Paddy Bird (Laytown) 69 1/3; 36 gross Bridie Cummins (Trim), Willie Corry (Bellewstown) and Ray McCormack (Laytown) 90.
Laytown P&P Club played host to the Meath Co Board Spring Alliance competition the Saturday before last and the winners were as follows:
36 nett Kathleen Grendon (Rathfeigh), Sean Kelly (Royal Meath) & Sean Reilly (Castletown) 66 2/3; 36 gross Willo McNally (Stackallen), Kieran Quinn (Rathfeigh) & Errol Carry (Rathfeigh) 85.
The final round takes place in Trim this coming Saturday.
