Gartland excited about new Dundalk

NEW Dundalk captain Brian Gartland is excited about the new arrivals at Oriel Park over the off season and believes each of them can help improve the squad.

Vinny Perth has snapped up midfielder­s Jordan Flores and Sean Murray, winger Daniel Kelly and goalkeeper Aaron McCarey as he bids to retain the league and FAI Cup, as well as compete in Europe and the other cup competitio­ns.

While Dundalk supporters have seen very little of the new arrivals so far, Gartland expects each of them to have an impact.

Speaking to The Argus about the new additions, he said: ‘Jordan has come in and he’s had to do a bit of work still to get back to fitness because he hasn’t played in a while and you can’t just jump in to full speed games.

‘I think he’ll be back in soon either this week or next week but he looks sharp. I did a bit of work with him last week while I was with the physio and he looks like a player so it’ll be exciting to see what he’s like.

‘Sean Murray, we all saw him against Drogheda and he was outstandin­g that day.

‘Daniel Kelly has been brilliant and gives us something else. The absolute speed of him... I don’t want to get into a 1v1 with a load of space against him, put it that way. Again, he’ll grow as he learns our game. You can already see the difference in him from the start of pre-season to now and that’s only five or six weeks. He’s just part of the group now.
