Glens grab five goals

-

ROCHE Emmets maintained their bright start to the season when they defeated Lannleire in Dunleer on Friday night.

The visitors did most of the damage in the first half as goals from Liam Dawe and Eugene Murray had them leading by 11 points at the break.

It was Murray who scored the first goal of the game on 17 minutes and five minutes later Dawe grabbed the second to put his side firmly in control, before Lannleire gave themselves hope just before the break when Colin Murphy pulled a goal back.

However, late points from Shane Byrne and Barry O’Hare saw Roche go in at the break with a 2-9 to 1-1 lead. The result was rarely in doubt in the second half and Roche were comfortable winners despite two late Lanneire goals from Bob and Colin Murphy. The Dundalk men made the trip with expectations of maintaining their push for league honours but on the day they were unable to match a very impressive Mals side.

The wind made it difficult for both sides but it was the Malachis who got the first point and it was 16 minutes on the clock before Naps scored their opening point, a free converted by Alan McCartney.

This score prompted Na Piarsaigh and the visitors scored three more in quick succession to go in at half time leading by 0-4 to 0-1.

The second period started with a gale blowing and Naomh Malachi made use of the wind at their backs to outscore the Dundalk side who only mustered one point in the half.
