St Peter’s club members out

THE outdoor Track and Field Season kicked off with the Pre-Louth Championsh­ips on Saturday at the Glenmore AC Track at Bush.

This was a very well attended event and even though it was cold the enthusiasm of the young athletes created a very warm atmosphere.

The St Peters club had it biggest representa­tion for some time. The club which has be always had a great tradition for field events enjoyed success on the Track at middle distance also this weekend.

Rory McLoughlin had a brilliant performanc­e to win the under 16 800 in a time of 2.11 which is a massive PB to add to a silver medal he had won earlier in the 100m.

Ava Plunkett delivered her best performanc­e yet when she won silver in the girls u16 100m. In the boys U15 the club managed to take all three podium positions in the 800m Dean Murtagh added to his 100m victory with gold, Mark Litchfield added to his 100m bronze with silver and Cian Gorham finished third to win bronze.

Sean Allen put his lack of running form behind him to win bronze in the boys U15 Long Jump.

Niamh Brady won Gold in the girls under 15 800m which added to her bronze in the Long Jump, silver in the 100m and bronze in the under 16 long jump.

Julie McLoughlin won bronze in the 100m and Judith Bell performed well in the Long jump but missed out narrowly on a medal finishing 4th.

Conor Litchfield was unlucky not to medal in the u14 Shot putt with a fourth place finish and suffered the same fate In the 100m.

Lucy Brennan showed her class once again when moving up an age to win the U15 long jump. Ellie Smyth had a strong run in the U14 Girls 800m to finish fourth and Isabeal Fitzpatric­k had a good performanc­e out of her age in the Long Jump.

Harry O’Reilly topped the podium in the Boys U13 600m and was joined by his training partner Ben McKeown who finished third in what was his first individual medal on the track.

Dearbhla Allen continued her good form when she claimed a third place finish to win bronze in the girls 600m to add to the bronze she had won earlier in the girls U13 Long Jump.

The club had three athletes compete in the girls U12 age group and although none of them managed to win medals they all showed great promise for the year ahead with Orla McLoughlin, Catherine Carey and Mia Finnegan all showing great potential.

Donnacha Reidy performed well in all four events available to an under eleven and is with out doubt one to watch for the future.

Emily O’Reilly put her broken finger to the back of her mind to win gold in the under 11 long jump and her twin sister Hannah

won Bronze in the 60m sprint final.

Katie Preston also performed really well on her first track and field outing especially at the Long Jump. Liam McKeown had a good run in the under 10 Boys 500m while Cian Smyth ran very well in the boys 60m sprint, Cain Murtagh performed well in all the under ten events just missing out in the medals.

Aoibhinn Boyle proved that she is a real all rounder when she won Gold in the girls under 10 Turbo Javelin with club mates Niamh Allen, Grace Carey and Emily Odonoghue all performing well in the different events.

There was also great performanc­es from our under 9 boys who made their Track and field debuts with Killian McKeown, Conor Preston, Oisin Finnegan, Tommy Odonoghue, Seanan Dolan, Fionn Reilly and Ryan Sorahan all making impressive debuts which shows the club will be strong in the future.
