Youth club host quiz in the Big House
Catherine Muckian and Loretta Dunphy at the Golden Hearts Youth Club quiz night in The Big House Pub. ON Friday night I headed for McGuinness’ Big House in Anne Street where a fundraising table quiz was taking place for Golden Hearts Youth club and a big crowd were there to take part in what turned out to be a rather tricky quiz!
Golden Hearts Youth Club run a club in the Dundalk Youth Centre for 2 hours on Wednesday nights for special needs children where they meet friends, make new friends, play games and also go away on day trips round the country.
I wasn’t too long in the door when I caught up with Tony, Marita and Christopher Duffy from Belfry Avenue who were with Mary Byrne from Avondale Park who were looking forward to the brain teasers and were definitely there to win.
Not too far away I got talking to Kate and Brendan Judge from Greenwood Drive with Stephen and Una Gunne from Ravensdale who eventually did admit that they were a packed team and were definitely going to finish in the prizes.
After this I headed over for a chat with Kathleen and Ronan Byrne from Hackballscross who were with Deirdre Armstrong from Redbarns Road who were in trouble straight from the start, they couldn’t decide on the team name, but were quietly confident they’d do well all the same. They were joined by Conor and Ciarán Byrne who were up for making the best of the night.
Making my way to an adjacent table I then got a word with Siofra and Pauric McCrum from Blackrock who were with Julie McKevitt from Carrick Road and Peter McCoy (like the crisps) from Marian Park who were insanely positive they were going to win the quiz.
Heading for another area in the pub I then headed for a group who included Bernice Morgan from Avenue Road, Shauna Carter from Manydown Close, Tania Morgan from Avenue Road and Siobhan Reid from Muirhevnamor who didn’t want to admit they were a packed team, but the dorsal fins were starting to show! Ellen Butterly and Ailish Carroll.
After this I got a word with Sherriff McKenna from Hyde Park who was having a laugh with Anne Babington from Dromiskin, Yvonne Minto from Muirhevnamor, Benny and Donna McDonald from Willow Grove who were in great form and looking forward to a good night.
At the table nearby I then met Elizabeth Mullen and Una Matthews. up with Tom and Ona McKevitt from Hoeys Lane who were ready to do battle along with John McSkeane recently home from Washington DC and now hanging his thinking cap in Ballybay and Josie Pepper from Carrick Road who assured me they were ready for a great night.
Finally, before the quiz got t under way I caught up with Jack Howell and Darragh Grogan from Dunleer, John Carroll from Philipstown who were busy making sure the night was running smoothly and were being ably assisted by Ailish Carroll and Ellen Butterly both from Phillipstown who were extremely helpful when I was talking to them earlier.
