Israel has had a very successful indoor season, retaining his National U20 title and setting a new youth national record. He is about to embark on a very demanding outdoor season and is due to participate in the Athletics Ireland Junior training camp in Portugal in April before competing in the Leinster Schools Championships in May.
If everything goes to plan he will compete in the All Ireland Schools finals in Tullamore on June 1. The Marist student will have a break from athletics while he completes his Leaving Certificate examinations in mid June.
He will resume his sprinting programme in Mannheim in Germany on June 29 with the Irish Junior relay team. He will also compete in the individual 100m sprint. July will also be a very busy month for the Dundalk native as he will compete in the National Juvenile Championships before representing Ireland at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan. All going well Israel will bring his season to an end in early August to begin a well-earned rest before going to university.
For runners with a less demanding schedule, The Marist 5km, promises to be an enjoyable challenge on a pleasant route around town.
