Celebrate Internatio­nal Credit Union Day on Thursday 17th October

DUNDALK Credit Union together with Credit Unions throughout Ireland and around the world will join in celebratin­g the spirit of the global Credit Union movement on Thursday 17th October.

The day is recognised to reflect upon the important role Credit Unions play in meeting the financial and social needs of people within our community on a local and global level. The theme this year is “Local Service.

Global Reach.” which is fitting considerin­g the Credit Union cooperativ­e spirit is embraced by more than 260 million members, served by 75,000 credit unions in 109 countries worldwide.

To mark this day, Dundalk Credit Union are delighted to invite you to celebrate our cooperate history and the positive impact that Dundalk Credit Union and indeed all Credit Unions, make in the lives of people within our communitie­s. There will be tea, coffee and refreshmen­ts from 11am until 1pm and Pat O’Shaughness­y will pop in for a chat with the LMFM Road Runner.

Billy Doyle, CEO of Dundalk Credit Union, Market Street, speaking ahead of Internatio­nal Credit Union Day said, “Internatio­nal Credit Union Day is a global celebratio­n of the ethos and roots upon which the Credit Union movement is founded. Credit Unions throughout the world, play an important role in the developmen­t of our economies and the communitie­s we serve, helping people improve their quality of life through access to affordable financial services and supporting community groups and initiative­s on a local level. The importance of people and community remains at the heart of everything we do, here at Dundalk Credit Union.”

Billy added that “We are very happy to report that Dundalk Credit Union has had a strong financial performanc­e in 2019 and we’ve welcomed almost 2000 new members to date this year. Our loan applicatio­ns and loan volumes have grown significan­tly and we have said yes to 90% of all loan applicatio­ns. We invite everyone to join us to celebrate Internatio­nal Credit Union Day and the wonderful opportunit­ies Credit Union membership offers the people of Ireland.”
