A 34-year-old man who damaged a car has been given a chance after an associated charge was struck out.

The judge made that decision having read a favourable report on Aleksejs Sasnovs and hearing that he had €662 compensati­on in court.

The defendant, of Mount View Court, Point Road and Garlow Close, Navan; previously admitted damaging the front right-side wing and front bumper of a vehicle in Anne Street, Dundalk, on 22 July, 2018.

Sasnovs has no previous conviction­s.

Judge McKiernan said she would give him a chance. The charge was struck out. Readypenny, is accused of the attempted hijacking at Darver on 17 February last.

He is also charged with an unauthoris­ed taking and burglary at Darver; and assaulting a garda sergeant causing him harm at Dundalk garda station on the same date.

The court heard the DPP has directed a trial on indictment.

Mr Carville was remanded on continuing bail to 20 November next for the preparatio­n and service of a book of evidence.

The same defendant is also charged with being intoxicate­d and engaging in threatenin­g, abusive and insulting behaviour at the Imperial Hotel, Dundalk, on 21 June last.

He is further accused of damaging a garage window at a house in Árd Éasmuinn, trespassin­g at a second house in Árd Éasmuinn and trespassin­g at a third house in the estate and attempting to get into a vehicle, on 13 August, 2019.

The defendant was remanded on continuing bail on those charges to 15 January, 2020.
