Dunne delivers in style

DAY two of the Louth Cross Country Championsh­ips got underway on Sunday last in St. Fechins GFC in Termonfeck­in, hosted by Aces AC.

The conditions were nothing short of a mud bath with the course having been torn up by the intermedia­te female and male races. Donal McMoreland started the day on a high for Glenmore running a fantastic race to cross the line in second position in the intermedia­te men’s 8000m race.

U9 girls got the juvenile programme under way with Grace Mulligan, Niamh Cranny and Fiadh Holmes representi­ng Glenmore well over 600m.

A large field of 39 athletes took to the start line for the u11 girls 1500m. Molly Anne Moore finished strongly to take 6th position.

She was followed home by Holly McCann, Sarah Duffy, Gillian Tuohy and Sophie Cumiskey. Together the girls took a well deserved third team place.

Leah Dunne, Grace Keenan and Aoife Keenan all ran well to compete out of age in u13 2500m. Tiarnan Hanniffy led the u13 team of Peadar Walsh, Seamus Smalle and Daniel Connolly home to take 3rd place.

Ava Brady also ran a great race to finish 6th in u15 3500m. James Dunne displayed fantastic form in boys u15 3500m.

A group of three athletes broke away approximat­ely half way through the race and then with 800m to go James started to push on and establishe­d a significan­t lead which he held until the end finishing strongly to take a well deserved 1st place.

Zofia Mullen crossed the line in 5th place in girls u17 4000m with her sister Anna-Mai running superbly to finish 2nd place in girls u19 4000m.
