Varied Louth projects tackle climate change
MORE than €25,000 has been allocated to 23 climate and bio-diversity projects in Louth.
Confirming funding to the successful applicants, Cllr John McGahon noted all of the initiatives are determined to tackle climate change and promote bio-diversity.
‘Local, community-led initiatives are crucial to delivering the ambition set out in the Climate Action Plan. These projects offer people a tangible, practical way to do their part to tackle the climate challenge and feel more connected to their local community as a result.
‘We have a short window of opportunity. We must act now,’ said Cllr McGahon.
Among the projects are Abhaile Autism Support, continuation of sustainable living willow sculpture building programme, €650 (figures include matched funding from Louth county council).
Castlebellingham/Kilsaran Env. Comm., Kilsaran NS nature walk and bio-diversity garden, €1,000; Cooley Community Alert, peninsula marine litter group, purchase of trailer, €600.
Dundalk Youth Centre, youth climate change project, €1,400; Glenmore Athletic Club, purchase of reusable cups for athletic events, €800; Louth Tidy Towns Together, Eco Tribes, to developed an ecologically-focused challenge among primary schools to generate community gardens, €3,000.
Louth Tidy Towns Together, Trashion Fashion, fashion show for transition year students, €3,000; MidLouth Men’s Shed, purchase of bee-keeping equipment, €950; Omeath District Development, community garden, €1,500; Rotary Club of Dundalk, repair of old school bikes for Africa, €550; Shelagh Youth Club, creation of biodiversity garden, €400; St Brigid’s School, creation of biodiversity/sensory garden, €600; Stephenstown Pond Trust Ltd., native Irish tree trail, €800.
St Mochta’s NS & Louth Village TT, promotion of bio-diversity/sustainability, €600; Louth Beekeepers’ Assoc. & Dundalk TT, purchase of bee hives and equipment, €2,000.
