Kenny has wise words for Bush school students
STEPHEN Kenny had wise words for the students, staff and invited guests at Bush Post Primary School’s annual awards ceremony on Friday 25th October.
The Ireland under 21 soccer manager entered the auditorium to tumultuous applause which highlighted the lasting appreciation the people of Dundalk hold for the former Dundalk FC manager. Mr Kevin Joyce, Principal of Bush Post Primary School, officially welcomed Stephen on his first visit to the school and outlined the massive contribution Stephen made to Dundalk FC which includes Irish League and FAI Cup doubles, huge success at European level as well as regenerating the fan base to ensure that Dundalk FC has a very bright future.
Bush Post Primary’s awards ceremony uniquely celebrates the excellence and talents of the students, both academically and the students’ personal qualities such as ‘Best Young Citizen. The very enjoyable event was co-ordinated by Ms Nicola Fee and was superbly compered by Mrs Sheena Gartland and Mr Paul Malone.
Mr Joyce presented the coveted ‘Principal’s
Prize’ to Peter Suresh, from the Leaving Certificate Class of 2019, who is now studying Dentistry in Trinity College Dublin. Stephen Kenny also made a special presentation to Laidán Clynch, for her contribution to the Irish Under 16 Soccer team.
In addressing the capacity audience, Stephen had wise words for the students of Bush Post Primary School. In reviewing his career to date, Stephen told the students to expect life to put difficulties in front of them as they pursue their own life goals. In a very personal address, Stephen shared his motto for dealing with the difficulties he has experienced on his road to success and advised ‘Don’t let setbacks set you back’. Stephen also told the rapt audience that constant hard work and the development of a great team spirit contributedgreatly to his achievements to date, especially at Dundalk FC.
The event concluded with a presentation from the school to Stephen who kindly met vast numbers of avid Dundalk fans who remained long after the ceremony ended to have a few words and a photograph with one of our finest local heroes.
