Kickhams to celebrate 40th anniversar­y of Minor win

COOLEY Kickhams celebrate the 40th anniversar­y of their 1979 Minor Championsh­ip victory when they gather in the Complex at Monksland on this coming Saturday, November 9.

The event starts at 7.30pm and a number of other famous victories are also due for celebratio­n. The 1989 and 1990 double Senior Championsh­ip successes will also be recognised on this the 30th anniversar­y of that historic achievemen­t.

The 1979 Minor victory saw Cooley compete in their eleventh final. The opposition was 7.30pm. All are welcome!

A Fashion Show in aid of St. Oliver’s National School, Carlingfor­d, takes place in the Ghan House, Carlingfor­d, on Friday November 15, commencing at 10am.

The event is organised to buy sensory and other essential equipment for the school. There will be a raffle on the day and lots of exciting discounts from Lush, McArdles and Unique Boutiques.

The Carlingfor­d/Omeath parish lotto draw took place on Tuesday night last, October 29.

The numbers drawn were 16, 20, 21 and 28 but there was no jackpot provided by Naomh Buithe from Collon, the holders of the title. Cooley were superior on the day and ran out winners by 2-11 to 1-8. At senior level in 1989, Cooley beat Ardee in the Senior final and went on to add the League title later in the year. In 1990 the opposition in the winner. There were no ‘match three’ winners and the 6 consolatio­n prizes of €25 each went to; Carlingfor­d: B & J Woods, E. Thornton, R. O’Reilly; Omeath: K.R.P. Kieran, E. Smyth, B. McGivern.

The jackpot for this week’s draw is €15,000. The new reserve jackpot is €9,300.

Local radio, LMFM, will record the 7pm Mass from the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Boher, on this Saturday evening, November 9.

The recording will be broadcast on the radio on Sunday morning, November 10, at 9am.

Cooley Kickhams u20s won this Shield semi-final match against Lanneire/ Nh Finbarrs by 3-11 to 0-7. At half time it was 2-7 to 0-5 in favour final was provided by Clans. It was a close, hard fought match with Cooley leading by two points at the finish, 0-11 to 0-9.

Saturday night in the Cooley Complex promises to be some night and the ‘80s disco with DJ, Mickey Duffy, should greatly add to the occasion. of the peninsula team.

First Aid Course for Parents has been organised for the Bush Post Primary School beginning on this Tuesday, November 5.

This is a six week programme and is free of charge. It takes place in the school in the Parents Room (number 37) from 10am until 12 noon.
