Tara stars in Rossini’s Cinderella

-

Ravensdale soprano Tara Erraught sings the title role in Irish National Opera’s production of Rossini’s Cinderella/ La Cenerentola which opens on November 10 in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre for four performances.

This is Tara’s second time performing with the INO as she sang in their opening season when she appeared as Susanna in ‘ The Marriage of Figaro’.

In Rossini’s enchanting version of the much loved fairytale, Tara plays the title role, which she has described as one of her favourites.

It has, in fact, become something of a signature role for her which she has performed for over 13 years in cities including Hamburg, Munich, Vienna and Washington.

When asked at a special reception to launch the INO production in Dublin last month,if she ever tires of the part, Tara replied: ‘You can’t be sick of her. Our second show will be my 30th so it’s the right time to bring it home. You don’t bring things home until they are really ready.’

Tara will also be singing this part when she returns to the Metroplitan Opera in New York next March. Announcing this latest production of Rossini’s take on Cinderella, the Met describes Tara as ‘ a rising star’.

INO Executive Director Diego Frasciati has said: ‘ We are also incredibly privileged to hear Tara Erraught in Cinderella just before she sings it at the Met in New York.’

This production of Rossini’s is directed by Fergus Sheil, who said he is delighted to cast Irish singers in so many major roles.

Tara also sang the title role in ‘La Cenerentola’ with the Welsh National Opera last year, earning rave reviews. One critic enthused: ‘ Tara Erraught gave us a gently humane Angelina, whose attempt to reconcile herself with Don Magnifico and her sisters is genuinely touching; so too is her relationship with the actor-mice, where her kindness and empathy for her fellow downtrodden creatures glows warmly. Her voice is richer and smokier than your usual mezzo, with the charcoal shading of the contralto lower down.’

She has a busy season ahead of her with recitals in Barcelona, the United States and the Wigmore Hall as well as roles in Hansel and Gretal with Bayerisches Staatsorchester in Munich and The Barber of Seville with the Vienna State Opera.

She will be back in Dublin on February 7 for a lunchtime concert, The Trials of Tenducci, in the National Gallery of Ireland.
