First look at new plans for M1 ‘Park and Share’ facility
Louth County Council has unveiled the plans for a new ‘Park and Share’ scheme just north of Dundalk.
The local authority gave notice of its intention to carry out construction of the park and share facility at Gibstown, approximately 250m west of Junction 16 of the M1 motorway.
The proposed works are expected to provide an ‘off -road’ car parking facility , with a right turn lane on the public road to support safe access to the facility from Junction 16 M1 motorway.
It is intended to be a safe pick-up and drop-off area for those using the facility, and will feature improved public lighting provision between Junction 16 M1 Motorway and the new Park and Share , and lighting of the facility.
The plans also include provisions for possible future security measures such as CCTV and electric vehicle (EV) charging points, and public transport connection.
Designing the facility has also involved measures to deter use by heavy goods vehicles, and all associated site development works.
Although there will be no fee for using the facility parking for more than 24 hours will be prohibited.
Louth County Council has undertaken Appropriate Assessment Screening, the details of which are available to the general public.
Plans and particulars of the proposed development may be inspected or purchased until Monday 16th December 2019 (inclusive) at the offices of Louth County Council, Town Hall, Dundalk during public opening hours.
Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the development would be situated, clearly marked “Park and Share
Facility at Gibstown near Junction 16 M1 Motorway” may be made in writing to the undersigned at Louth County Council, Town Hall, Crowe Street, Dundalk, before 5.00 pm on Tuesday 7th January 2020.
Plans for the project had been presented to local councillors at the meeting of Dundalk Municipal District
Committee earlier this month.
Concerns about safety for those using the facility were raised at the meeting.
Councillors heard that a CCTV system , but not security personnel, is planned, along with additional lighting, and the removal of hedgegrows to make the facility almost entirely visible from the motorway.
