Bridgeside got off to the better start in their North Louth Winter League match against Faughart Rovers and raced into an early lead with Gerard Collins finding space on the edge of the box and firing in. They soon doubled their lead when a cross drifted to the far post and was tapped in by an unmarked Chad McEneaney. Bridgeside continued to dominate the first half but could not breach what was a solid defensive unit with stand in goal keeper Mark Keenan saving any shots from range.

Shortly into the second half Bridgeside added a 3rd with a thunder bolt from Gerard Collins which left the keeper with no chance. Injuries forced the Faughart Rovers manager into changes which seemed to galvanise the team. Spaces started to appear in the Bridgeside defence allowing Rovers to mount a few attacks of their own. Keith O’Donoghue latched on to a delightful through ball and slotted calmly past a nervy looking Bridgeside goal keeper.

This lifted the Rovers team and they continued to dominate with Robbie O’Hanlon and Maurice Coffey causing havoc in the final third. Niall McDonagh managed to work a yard of space and fire a delightful curling effort into the far corner, a fine goal anyone would be proud of. With momentum behind them Rovers won a free kick around 30 yards out, and as he does daily in training Robbie O’Hanlon floated a wonderful cross landing at the feet of colossus centre back James Green. James took one touch before poking it past a helpless keeper.

Rovers will feel if it wasn’t for a slow start all three points could have been taken but were happy to settle for a point

Karen is very much looking forward to her visit to Carlingford; ‘Christmas is all about tradition and this is one tradition I very much look forward to and enjoy, my annual journey to the Heritage Centre. I hope to inspire and share what Christmas means to me, seasonal colours and winter foliages and berries creating pieces for a very festive home this Christmas. Be inspired !’
