Big names perform at LSPCA night

-

EASILY one of the biggest groups I’ve seen performing in the Lisdoo had to be the Oriel Traditional Orchestra whose 65 members were in action for the ‘Artists for Animals’ fundraiser for the Louth Society for prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A huge crowd had turned out specially for the occasion to enjoy the orchestra, performances by John McIntyre and Zoe Conway, Jim Corr and Liam Monagher and a guest appearance by Jim’s son Brandon Corr no less!

I was only in the door when I got talking to Tina and Stephanie Caffrey from Boicetown Togher who told me they were looking forward to the music and were there to support a very worthy cause.

Next I caught up with an extremely busy Fiona Squibb from Lios Dubh who is Hon. Inspector with the LSPCA who was with daughter Sirena Grass from Lios Dubh who were looking forward to a very successful night.

I then got a quick word with the PRO Oliver Morgan and husband Brendan Byrne from Meadow Grove who were busy running around making sure that everything was running smoothly.

After this I got talking to Gabrielle Tuomey from Lennonstown Manor who was with Eithne Hamill from Drogheda who told me the LSPCA do a great job, she got a dog from them 15 years ago and it really is a great companion to her.

Not too far away I then got talking to Leigh McCloskey from Faughart who was there with wife Martha and ‘ the star of the show’, son Eric who were there to support the night and were looking forward to a good night.

Making my way through the crowds I then got a word with chairperson of the LSPCA Paul Casey who said even though it was going to be a busy one, they were looking forward to a good night.

I then caught up with one of the best football trainers this town has ever produced, none other than Stephen Connolly from Cooley who was there with

Carmel O’Callaghan and Fidelma Keogh.

his main squeeze Cait Monagher from McDermotts Terrace who was also busy making sure the night was humming along.

I then headed for a table where I got talking to Emily McDonnell from Newtownbalregan, Pauline Gallagher and Gerry Kelly both from Kilcurry who told me they have family members in the Oriel Orchestra and they were there to support them.

Not too long later I got talking to Graham Hendy from Dublin who was there with

fiddle player Liam Monagher who was performing with Jim Corr and was really looking forward to the show.

After this I had the pleasure of meeting up with some of the Oriel Orchestra and they included Mary Rogan from Dromiskin, Christina O’Boyle from Ard Easmuinn, Rita and Mairead McCloskey from Faughart who were looking forward to playing but weren’t going to give away any info on what they were going to be performing.

Who should I meet next only the MC for the night Henry Joseph Lee who was looking sharp in his suit and dickie-bow and told me he was delighted to have recently been made an ambassador for the aged with the Dundalk Credit Union recently. Good man Harry, fair play to you!

I then headed over for a chat with Michael Lynch from Togher, wife Phil and son Philip who were all there to hear the orchestra because Philip’s girlfriend Caroline Caldwell from Cavan was performing with them.

Making my way over to another table I then met up with Kathleen Clarke from Bay Estate, Margaret Coburn and Ann McKeown both from St. Alphonsus Villas who told me they were sure the music was going to be great and were delighted to be there to support such a worthy cause.

After this I got a word with Rosemary O’Sullivan and

Rosemary Magnier both from Blackrock who were in great form and looking forward to supporting a cause that is close to everyone’s hearts.

Finally, I did manage a quick word with Cait who told me it was going to be an extremely busy night and was looking forward to spending time with main squeeze Stephen but also hearing Liam performing with Jim too.
