Annagassan festive lights

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

HE might be more accustomed to arriving by reindeer drawn sleigh, but Santa was equally at home in Fintan McKeown’s stylish classic car as he arrived to turn on the Christmas lights in Annagassan this year.

Huge crowds turned out for the even and there was great excitement amongst both young and old as they eagerly awaited the arrival of the big man in red.

This is the fourth year of the Christmas lights and proved to be the biggest and best yet.

The village was festooned in in lights and bathed in stunning colour as Santa and his helpers Saoirse Regan from Tullydonnell School, Joel Byrne from Dillonstown School and Sean Geeney, who acted as MC on the night, switched on the Christmas lights.

Families turned out in their droves to cheer Santa and his helpers on despite the cold weather and there were great cheers as the illuminations lit up the night sky.

After the festivities, many of the children and parents, including Daisy Caraher and Catriona Caraher (pictured), were delighted to meet Santa and tell him what they were hoping to find under the Christmas treet this year.

There was a fantastic festive atmospher on the night thanks to the Christmas songs provided courtesy of the children from Tullydonnell NS, Pugwash Bay and Creche, Annagassan and Dillonstown NS.

A presentation of a gift was made to Frank Jones, Committee Treasurer from Brian Carraher, Committee Chairperson for his hard work and dedication to the committee.

The lights committee would like to thank all their sponsors and everyone in the parish who helped out and made this such a wonderful event.
