Surprise someone with tickets to see their favourite band or comedian on stage or allow them choose their own fantastic night out with gift vouchers.

Here in Dundalk, there are several venues offering top class entertainm­ent so it’s easy to find something to suit everyone, from film buffs to music fans.

The new season at An Tain Arts Centre definitely has something for everyone with an exciting programme of theatre, music, comedy, cinema and even events for children.

There’s no better way to end the festive season than with a trip to pantomine and this year Dunalk Musical Society are staging the periennel favourite Aladdin from January 6 to 12, with maintee performanc­es on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

For music lovers, highlights include Barry Steele presenting The Roy Orbison Story, the renowned fiddler Kevin Burke, Christina Rogers and her tribute band performing ‘One Night of Adele, country and gospel singer Patrick Feeney, Dundalk based singer/songwriter Ines Khai, Beyond the Horizon: The Pink Floyd Show, while classical fans will enjoy flautist Karin Leitner and harpist Teresa O’Donnell with ‘Music of Irish Drawing Rooms’. Colaiste Ris stage High School Musical and S.O.N.G present Jekyll & Hyde.

Theatrical treats include Donal Courtney’s one man show ‘God Has No Country,’ the Castle Players stage Sive and Elaine O’Dwyer tells the story of Maureen O’Hara in Queen of Technicolo­ur, and Quintessen­ce Theatre return to An Táin with ‘ The Star of Chester’s Lane’. Comedian Baz Ashmaway brings his new show Family Matters to An Tain.

And of course, film buffs would enjoy a season ticket to An Tain’s cinema club with options for afternoon or evening screenings.

The Oriel Centre is another venue hosting some of the country’s top acts, with the Bow Brothers featuring Cathal Hayden, Stephen Hayden and Brian McGrath, Brian Kennedy, The Frank & Walters, and Relish all lined up for the spring.

The Spirit Store, of course, remains one of the regions top venues, playing host to a diverse range of acts from up and coming musicians, tribute bands and comedians. Highlights of the spring season include comedians Des Bishop , Neil Delamar’, the Laughter Lounge on tour, Colin Murphy, Jason Byrne, Danny O’Brien, Chris Kent, Tony Cantwell, Enya Martin, Farmer Michael and Kathleen, Alison Spittal, Owen Colgan of The Hardy Bucks, and Joanne McNally making it a particular strong season for those who want a night of laughter. Alongside a host of tribute bands, Calvin Jones, Daoiri Farrell, Mick Flannery, Pat Coldrick and Jack Lukeman look like being the stand out gigs for those who like original talent.

Meanwhile, the Carnbeg start the year with three big concert nights, with Declan Nerney and his band, Sharon Shannon, Frances Black and Mary Coughlan and Alsan lined up.

Country music fans have lots to choose from at the Carrickdal­e Hotel with the Susan McCann String of Pearls Festival weekend, Mike Denver and Tommy Fleming all lined up for the New Year.
