Gerry and friends serve up a festive treat at Táin Theatre

-

Gerry O’Connor’s annual gathering of local musicians, who have come home from abroad for the Christmas holidays, for a celebration of music, song and stories returns to An Táin Arts Centre on Saturday December 28 at 8pm.

‘ They will share songs and stories , tunes and tales; their voices blend in harmony, their tasteful instrumentals prove that these masters have nothing left to prove, together, they make you remember why music existed in the first place!’ says Gerry of the musicians who join him for this seasonal get together.

This year the world famous fiddle player will be joined by Len Graham for some old tunes and songs from their time together in the band Skylark. Traditional singer and flute player Nuala Kennedy, who is originally from Dundalk and now living in Ennis, Co Clare, is a regular collaborator with Gerry. Earlier this year they played at the National Festival in Australia and more recently in the Thomas Darcy Summer School, Carlingford, to a most enthusiastic audience. Nuala has just returned home from playing a number of concerts in the United States.

Also joining Gerry on stage is Oisín McCann, piper, guitarist and singer, who spent a year of touring the world before going to Royal Conservatory of Music in Glasgow where he studies traditional music on the flute.

Frank Boyle, a Carrick Road native who has lived in Helsinki for many years, will share tall tales and monologues from the area’s most famous poet, Patrick Kavanagh, whose Christmas poems evoke the season so well.

Tickets, €15 per person or €50 for a family offer of four tickets (plus €1.50 booking fee per ticket), are available from the box office of An Tain Arts Centre, ph 042 9332332 or online www. antain.ie, 2
