A series of workshops on the implicatio­ns of Brexit are set to be held across Louth in the coming days and weeks as Britain’s departure from the EU on January 31st could have far-reaching effects on Irish business.

The objective of this ‘Prepare Your Business for Customs’ Export & Import Procedures workshop is to provide businesses with knowledge and understand­ing of the potential impacts, formalitie­s and procedures to be adopted when trading with a Third Country.

The workshop will highlight the customs facilities available to importers and exporters, opportunit­ies to minimise import duty payments and ensure compliance with customs procedures.

They are also designed to embed best practice into businesses from across all industry sectors.

Aimed at Small, Medium Enterprise owner/ managers from all business sectors, workshop content will include:

- Understand­ing Customs & the potential implicatio­ns for small businesses

- The administra­tion process as it relates to import and export procedures with ‘ Third Countries’ i.e. countries outside the EU Customs Union

- Goods Classifica­tion, Valuation and Origin

- Export & Import procedures – Electronic Declaratio­n Process, ‘Automated Entry Processing’ (AEP), ‘Single Administra­tive Documents’ (SAD)

- Understand­ing tariffs and their cost implicatio­ns

- ‘Economic Operator Registrati­on and Identifica­tion’ (EORI) and time limits involved in lodging export declaratio­ns - Comprehens­ive Guarantees - Deferred Payment Accounts - Understand­ing the AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) process

-How to implement procedures that limit exposure to duties and tariffs

The first of these workshops is set to take place in Drogheda this Thursday 16th January 2020 at The Mill Enterprise Hub, Drogheda, from 9:30am – 4pm – Light lunch will be provided. The workshop is free, but there are limited places, so booking is. essential

The second in the series will be held in Dundalk on Friday 24th January 2020 at the Creative Spark centre in Clontygora, Muirhevnam­or.

It will be held from 9.30am to 4pm, with a light lunch also available. Once again, the workshop is free, but booking is essential

The final in the series will be held in Ardee on Wednesday 12th February at Ardee Business Park from 9:30am to 4pm.
