Bonner hears Schoolboys League plans
January 2005
FAI national technical director Packie Bonner and Noel O’Reilly, assistant to Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr, are special guests at a breakfast launch of Dundalk Schoolboys League development plan.
The league is engaged in a €200,000 redevelopment of its Bellew Park headquarters with the aid of the EU Programme for Peace and
Reconciliation which is administered by Louth county council’s Peace Two Task Force.
Re-fencing of the park is complete and refurbishment of dressingrooms is nearing completion.
The next phase is drainage of the ground and putting in new floodlights, projects to occur simultaneously to avoid damage to the playing surface.
Planning approval is sought and once obtained the schoolboys league committee intends closing
Bellew Park for ten weeks and making alternative fixture arrangements.
There are also plans to upgrade the coaching structure within the league and for its representative teams, and give coaches the opportunity to enhance their skills by attending courses and workshops.
DSL invites a wide spectrum of business people to the launch to appraise them of the sponsorship packages on offer.
Organisers also request support to develop the league to help footballers fulfil their potential and promote the general welfare of young people through participation in sport.
A screen presentation is made to that end, outlining various methods of how assistance can be given through sign sponsorship, sponsorship of competitions, overall league sponsor and underwriting the DSL representative programme.
The league’s coaches and managers attend along with members of one of the representative teams.
