Stellar line-up for Spring Series at Heritage Centre

-

The launch of the 2020 Spring Concert series in the Carlingford Heritage Centre took place recently and the artistic directors, Zoë Conway and John McIntyre, will be joined on stage by a combination of established favourites and first time appearances – local and national names – Andy Irvine, Steve Cooney and Dermot Byrne, The Sands Family, the Manning Trio all the way from Ravensdale and our much loved operatic trio, Aris Nadirian, Roisin Bradley and Brian Connor.

On Sunday April 5 the Manning Trio featuring the internationally renowned classical musicians from Ravensdale will open the series.

They recently delighted audiences as part of their Boyne Music Festival series. Sisters, Aisling and Julie-Ann Manning, in company with Deirdre Brennan, will play music by Debussy and Shostakovich followed by a medley of popular classics.

On Sunday April 19, Dermot Byrne and Steve Cooney, two of the leading instrumentalists in Ireland today, will feature. Australian born guitarist, Steve Cooney moved to Ireland in 1981 and has performed with Stockton’s Wing,

Mary Black, Sharon Shannon and many others. Accordion player, Dermot Byrne’s sweet effortless playing has to be heard and seen to be believed. Thrilled to welcome these outstanding musicians to Carlingford.

On Sunday April 26 it is the turn of The Sands Family, the much loved family quartet of singers, songwriters and masters of music-making – Anne, Tom, Ben and Colum - all the way from across the Lough and the lovely town of Rostrevor – and always at home in Carlingford.

They have kept alive the rich traditions of County Down and given musical expression to the hopes, fears and humour – the lives, loves and loss – of people from all corners of Ireland and much further afield.

Andy Irvine, one of the giants of Irish folk music, touring for over 50 years with

Planxty, Sweeney’s Men and Paul Brady among others is there on Sunday May 3. Andy is one of the great Irish singer-songwriters of our time with an unquenchable belief in social justice and human rights and audiences have been enthralled by his mastery of bouzouki and traditional song and song-writing. A memorable treat in store for music lovers.

On Sunday May 10 Zoe and John will be joined by tenor, the Soprano and the Pianist - Aris Nadirian, Roisin Bradley and Brian Connor who make a hugely welcome return to the Heritage Centre.

This wonderful combination of three masters of their respective arts excelled on their last appearance together at Holy Trinity in Spring 2018.

We are looking forward to seeing and hearing them perform together again for the closing concert of the 2020 series.

Season tickets are on special offer (€50 for all five concerts) and are on sale from Carlingford Heritage at https://carlingfordheritagecentre. com/. Tickets for individual events can also be purchased on line at €12 (concession price €10). Concerts start at 4pm each Sunday.
