Golf friends record aces on same day!

TWO golfer friends share an astonishing feat. Each of them scores a hole-in-one in the same competition!

Brian McSloy and Dónal O’Dowda record aces on different holes at their local Greenore course.

Brian, who plays off 14, holds out his seven iron shot to the par 3 seventh, while Dónal (20) conquers the demanding par three 13th with a nine iron.

It is a first for Brian, from Jenkinstown, but he has witnessed more than his share in ten years playing.

The odds for a hole-inone are remarkably high, and the chances of this occurrence hard to assess - two aces on the same day in the same competition.

Indeed, the achievement is all the more remarkable in that the competition goes ahead on a temporary course with smaller greens than normal in play.

Another golfer, Augustine Goss, enjoys a two on a par 4. So, it’s definitely a day for rarities.

It’s an amazing conicidence the Brian, and Dónal, who is from Ravensdale, businessmen and good friends, should strike their aces on the same day.

For all that, Brian quite unexcited.

By contrast, six Japanese visitors playing in front of his fourball can’t contain themselves.

‘ They were jumping about like jacks in the box,’ Brian says.

‘ They must never have seen a hole-in-one before.’

He plays in both Warrenpoint and Greenore, and rates reaching the final of the mixed foursomes with Hilary Parker in the peninsula club, and winning the club fourball with Michael Carr in Warrenpoint last year as the two highlights of his career.

Meanwhile, Dónal doesn’t see his ball go into the hole and has no idea where it lands. So, he gets a nice surprise on reaching the green. is
