Hurlers also seeking first win of campaign

ALLIANZ HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 3B

-

LIKE their football comrades, Louth hurlers remain winless after the opening two games in Division 3A of the Allianz Hurling League after going down to Longford, in another five point loss, on a fruitless away trip to Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday.

With the wind causing havoc Derek Frehill’s midlanders managed the conditions considerably better.

While Louth to their credit, mounted a second half revival, in truth Paul McCormack’s side’s inability to put scores on the board cost them down the stretch.

The home side did the bulk of the work in the opening half going in nine points ahead 0-12 to 0-3 at half time thanks to the accuracy from Galway native Alan Ward. While the ever-reliable Darren Geoghegan amassed all three of Louth’s first half point tally.

When Longford midfielder Johnny Casey pounced early in the second half to effectively seal the game with a goal to make 1-13 to 0-3, there was an air of inevitably about the result from that point onwards.

However, Louth dug deep and showed heart with Pearse Óg’s Andrew McCrave finding the net with five minutes to play but Louth could not get another past Eanna Daly in the Longford goal to gather something from the game.
