Successful step up for Roche

-

HUNTERSTOWN got their first win of the new season when they proved too strong for Kilkerley Emmets in the Paddy Sheelan Group E game at Darver on Sunday morning.

Rovers had lost their opening game against St Marys but looked the more likely winners for much of this contest against a Kilkerley side who had drawn with Mattock Rangers in their first outing during the week.

The conditions contributed to a low-scoring first half but the decisive score came from Brendan Lennon who scored the only goal of the game to help his side lead by 1-2 to 0-2 at half time.

Glen Matthews took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half as he scored five points, while Paul Carrie and Alan Landy were also on target to ensure their side came out on top.

On a disappointing outing for Kilkerley, Tadgh McEnaney made an impression with four points. The game at The Ramparts saw the visitors take the early initiative and McCann opened the scoring with a goal after just seven minutes.

Points from Jodie Keenan and Joseph Connor helped the Pats remain in charge as they went into the break with a healthy 1-6 to 0-4 advantage.

The home side were unable to mount any serious challenge to the Pats lead in the second half as the visitors remained in control thanks to scores from Aaron Mills and Cathal Grogan before

McCann put the game beyond any doubt with his second goal five minutes from the end.

The Gaels struggled to make any impression in front of the posts and their only score of the half came from a Dylan McKeown goal three minutes from the end.

The corner forward was prominent in an opening half that ended with the Faughart side leading by 0-10 to 1-6, with the only goal of the game helping to keep the O’Mahonys
