Storm damage to Greenway

THE series of storms which dominated weather systems last month has led to damage along the popular Carlingfor­d- Omeath Greenway, councillor­s heard at the March meeting.

Cllr. Antoin Watters said there was ‘a lot of storm damage’ to the Greenway over the last while, which had left parts of the track ‘impassable’.

He asked for the council to look at replacing the gravel along some parts of the terrain, as it was causing a lot of difficulty for users.

A call for the timing of traffic lights at Stapleton Place to be reviewed was heard at the monthly Municipal meeting.

Cllr. Maria Doyle said there appeared to be an issue with the lights which was causing long delays.

She added that they seemed to be set for around 30 seconds or more stoppage.

Engineer Mark Johnston said they would like at the particular lights raised. But he said 30 seconds was around an average setting for traffic lights.

TRAFFIC issues along the Rock Road have become chaotic’ at times, the Municipal meeting heard.

Cllr Emma Coffey said the road was being used as a ‘rat run’ by motorists trying to avoid the busy junction at Xerox on the Dublin Road. She said her concerns had been raised last year, and she again called for some traffic calming measures along the route.

Engineer Mark Johnston said there were no plans for the route in this year’s budget, and it may have to wait until the list for low cost safety measures is drawn up this September. ‘absolutely
