Has€5,000 compensati­on

A man who came to court with €5,000 compensati­on for two gardaí he assaulted has been remanded on continuing bail for finalisati­on of the case.

Previously, David Dougan (39), 37 O’Hanlon Park, pleaded guilty to assaulting a garda causing him harm and to assaulting a second male officer on 29 March, 2018.

He also admitted being intoxicate­d in a public place and two counts of engaging in threatenin­g, abusive and insulting behaviour on the same occasion.

The offences arose from an incident which occurred in Boyd’s car-park.

Solicitor Aimee McCumiskey said that Judge Coughlan had ordered that €5,000 compensati­on be paid, and since then Judge McKiernan had given more time to the defendant to gather the money.

Ms McCumiskey added the €5,000 was in their office account but they did not know who to hand it over to. Two guards are the injured parties.

Judge Gearty noted full funds are available and remanded the defendant on continuing bail to 16 March for finalisati­on and to direct a payee for the compensati­on.

Kate McKenna, 57 Gort na Glaise, Sandy Lane, Blackrock had €5 compensati­on in court for the item she stole from Centra, Main Street, Blackrock, on 1 May, 2019.

Evidence was given that she paid for other goods on the occasion. There are no previous conviction­s. Solicitor Aimee McCumiskey said her client has a daughter.

Someone else was involved in this incident but the defendant was willing to accept her involvemen­t.

The Probation Act was applied, and legal aid granted. pleton Place on 14 July, 2019, while in a red Toyota Land Cruiser.

He was summonsed for no insurance, failure to produce insurance, driving without a licence, failure to produce a driver’s licence, failure to produce a driver’s licence/learner permit and non-display of discs.

There are five previous convoction­s, the prosecutin­g garda stated.
