Louis to stun with fun-filled ‘The Greatest Show’ musical

ST LOUIS STAGE THE GREATEST SHOWMAN

-

THE noblest art is making people happy’ – at least that is what PT Barnum believed!

And so the TY Class of 2020 in St Louis Secondary School plan to do just that when audiences turn out for their show, aptly called ‘ The Greatest Show’.

It tells the story of the trials and tribulations of the famous circus master PT Barnum and is sure to be full of charm and surprises as the school’s previous shows have been.

‘ The songs are fabulous and catchy, and it will be almost impossible not to sing along, and as always the cast, drawn from the full year group is one full of hidden gems,’ said teacher Siobhan Higgins, who is part of the team of staff behind the production.

Aoife Savage who plays PT Barnum told how excited she was at taking on the famous role ‘My family never even knew I could sing! I have danced for years but this is my first time in a singing role.’

She added; ‘I am so excited to be part of such a great production. This is a story of inclusion, of embracing everyone no matter who or how they are, kind of like our school ethos really. We have had so much fun rehearsing.’

The show is a fully in-house effort at St. Louis with Siobhán Higgins, Elaine Byrne and Kate O’ Byrne the teachers leading the production.

The sets are designed and painted by the students themselves, and the dances were all created and rehearsed by students as well.

‘ What is lovely about our show every year is the fact that we have all the skills here to produce a top class show without having to pay outsiders to do it for us,’ explained Siobhán Higgins. ‘ The girls learn so much from this experience.

‘ They get to have ownership of the production and it’s a great one to have on the CV for the future.’

‘ What is so special for me is that every girl gets to perform on the stage,’ said Elaine Byrne.

‘ There is no feeling better than that, and it is wonderful that no matter how small the part they all feel equally important to the overall production.’

Huge crowds are expected for the show whicg runs in the Chapel Hall next week, Wednesday March 18th to Friday 20th 2020 at 7:30pm, with tickets priced at €10 each, available from the school office.
