Wolfe Tones/St Nicholas lead all the way

-

DROGHEADA INDEPENDENT MFL DIVISION 2

WOLFE Tones/St Nicholas opened the scoring straight from the throw in and it proved to be one way traffic for most of the first half.

The Tones/Nicks scored their first goal from the penalty spot after a trip in the box.

Dunleer tried to rally against a gale force wind but it proved difficult. They managed to add two points just before the half time whistle to leave it 1-7 to 0-2 at the break.

At the beginning of the second half the Tones/Nicks were determined to hold on to their strong lead and added two early goals to seemingly put the game out of reach of Dunleer.

With the score at 4-8 to 1-6 it looked over but a late rally from Dunleer saw them add two goals to make the scoreline more respectable.

A fine save by The Wolfe Tones keeper denied them a third goal in this period, however the rally came too late with Wolfe Tones/St Nicholas running out 4-08 v 3-06 winners.

ST.PATRICKS started this game with the advantage of a strong wind and Cian O’Connell netted an early goal, punching the ball to the back of the net after a long ball in. The Pats wasted a lot of chances with the advantage of the wind, however points from Darren Connor, Aaron Mills and Gavin Meally gave them a healthy lead.

A mix up in the St. Patricks defence helped St.Brides reduce the gap before half time when they capitalized and found the back of the net, making it 1-5 to 1-1.

St.Brides started the second half strongly, however were soon reduced to 14 men after a scuffle between the sides.

Both teams added early goals with Ethan McGinn finding the net for St.Patricks.

Going into the final 10 minutes, St. Patricks held on to a slender two-point lead, however even with the extra man they struggled in possession and St. Brides battled hard to add two points to their tally, with their last point levelling the match just before the full time whistle.
