Spacers Drama Group are busy getting ready for their return to the Friary Hall, Anne Street for three nights next week with another hilarious comedy ‘I’m the One for You’, by Irish Playwright Jimmy Keary.

This three act play will be performed by a cast of locals which include some familiar faces and also some actors making their stage debut under the direction of Blackrock’s thespian Mary Reilly.

‘I’m the One for You’ is a rip roaring comedy centred on widower Gerry O’Malley, played by Brendan Walsh, a farmer living alone. Dorrie Sinnott, played by Joanne Dalton is a widow, who comes in to clean for him once a week. Dorrie has her eye on Gerry and has high hopes that wedding bells will ring for them someday.

However, local bachelor farmer Jack O’Dowd, played by David Lennon fancies Dorrie, having courted her some years previously before she was married. Dorrie has little time for Jack and dismisses his advances at every chance she gets.

Then Gerry meets Ruth Hickey played by Joan Wilson, a newly-arrived divorcee in the area, when she approaches him to hire his lorry for a forthcoming ICA event. There is an instant rapport between them.

Matters are further complicated by Gerry’s son-in-law, Hugo Carter played by David McArdle, who helps in the theft of Gerry’s farm machinery to pay off his debts to some very unsavoury characters.

As Dorrie’s advances become more amorous and Jack becomes more jealous, Gerry realises that he will have to do something about the situation, but unfortunately his colour-blindness and some mixedup invitations only make matters ten times worse. Who will end up with the partner of their dreams?

Don’t miss this hilarious comedy which is packed with craic and confusion and will have you in stitches from start to finish.

The full cast compriese: Joanne Dalton, Brendan Walsh, David Lennon, Joan Wilson, Stephanie Rocks, David ‘Dathi’ McArdle, Martina Clerkin, Yvonne Laurence and John Farrell.

This follows on their successful production of ‘ The Real McCoy’ last spring.

‘I’m the One for You’ opens on Thursday March 19 and runs for three nights. Curtain up 8pm.
